Here’s my first, relatively thought out attempt at a list of films, prompted by friends and shaped by many. For me it remains more initiatory than investigative, more taken by breadth than by depth, even though more than half of these either are no longer recent discoveries or are not my introduction to a filmmaker / a phase in their trajectory / the context of production–reception they have been existing in. The rest I have come to know only within this month; they are films whose intelligence, immensity and humility managed to get through to me at a fine speed.
